On 19th January 2011 the deadline for appeal of the planning refusal  passed WITHOUT Scottish Coal submitting an appeal – hopefully this will be the last we hear about open cast mining in this area.

Welcome – in this website you’ll find all the latest information about the campaign opposing Scottish Coal’s plans to mine 2 million tonnes of coal from Airfield Farm near Cousland, Midlothian.

We are delighted to report that Midlothian Planning Committee have unanimously voted to reject the application for Airfield Open Cast near Cousland.  A HUGE thanks to all our supporters across the country. A victory for democracy!

We are delighted to announce that, despite having to cancel or curtail a number of fundraisers due to the severe weather conditions before Christmas, we have reached our fundraising target in record time. This was due to a combination of £2,200 raised from the whisky tasting and Limited Editions raffle and a number of very generous donations from private individuals and community groups such as Conserving Rural Pencaitland.  Many thanks to all….means we start 2011 having paid all the bills and with a small surplus.

See the Limited Editions Raffle Page for prize winners.
